ABOUT FINLAND PATHWAY

Finland Pathway is a program jointly organized by Haaga-Helia and JAMK Universities of Applied Sciences. Students participate in the program study towards a Bachelor degree issued by one of these universities.

In this study track, students complete 1st year of Bachelor studies 100% online from their home countries. Remaining studies are done in Finland. All studies are conducted in English, with lecturers from Haaga-Helia and JAMK.

All non-EU nationals who have completed High School education or University education in their home countries can apply. There is no age limit.

HOW TO APPLY

REQUIREMENTS

  • You have completed High school in your country or you are graduating from High school before July 2022.
  • You have sufficient English skills. You can submit an English certificate as proof of language skills. IELTS /TOEFL/PTE are accepted certificates. The minimum level must be equivalent to IELTS 5.5 (no skill under 5.0). Certificates have to be valid at the time of applying.
  • If you have completed High school or University education 100% in English, you do not need to submit English certificate. 

DOCUMENTS

  • A scan copy of High School Diploma OR current High School Grade Report (if graduating before July 2022).
  • If you have completed Bachelor/Master studies in your home country, you can also apply with a scan copy of your Bachelor/Master degree. 
  • If the documents above are not in English/Finnish/Swedish, a certified translation into one of these languages is required.
  • English certificate if available (described above)

ABOUT FINLAND PATHWAY

Which courses are included in Pathway year?

1st semester in Pathway year include basic and soft skills courses such as Basic ICT, Maths, English Communication etc. In 2nd semester, you will study 15 ECTS of specialization courses related to the degree programme you choose. 

These courses are part of compulsory studies in Finland. You need to complete these courses whether you study via Finland Pathway track or not. 

All courses in Pathway year add up to 60 ECTS (European credits). During remaining years in Finland, students should complete 60 ECTs/year to graduate on time. 

Is the Bachelor Degree different if I am a Pathway student?

There is no difference between the Degree Diploma of students who take the Finland Pathway track and other students.

Pathway studies include courses from normal degree studies. It is not a Preparatory or Foundation program.

Who are the lecturers in Pathway year?

You will study 100% in English with lecturers from both Haaga-Helia and JAMK Universities. 

Do I need pass another admission round after Pathway year?

If you complete 45/60 ECTS of Pathway studies with minimum GPA 3.0, a study place is automatically reserved for you at the university and degree programme of your choice. 

You do not need to pass another admission test or interview after Pathway year. 

Can I work and study at the same time during Pathway year?

Lessons will take place during mornings or early afternoons Finland time. 3-4 days/week and 2-3 hours/lesson. 

We recommend you reserve your time to study since the workload could be large. 

Can I study 1st year (online year) in Finland?

Unfortunately Finnish Immigration does not grant student residence permit (student visa) to study online in Finland. Our program is designed for students who want to study from their home country and save 1 year of living costs in Finland.

ABOUT STUDYING IN FINLAND

How much does it cost to live in Finland?

For a student it costs roughly 400-500 euros/month including food, housing and travel costs. 

Students can apply for cheaper housing, get meal discounts at school and 50% discount on public transportation tickets. 

Can students work part-time in Finland?

Finland allow students to work part-time maximum 30 hours/week. This can be averaged over the whole year. You can work more in some weeks and work less in others.

Average wage ranges from 7-10 euros/hr. On average a student can earn 600-800 euros/month with a stable part-time jobs within 30 hours/week.

How can I find jobs in Finland after graduation?

Finland now allows students to stay up to 2 years after graduation on a job-seeker permit. 

Most jobs especially in IT sector do not require Finnish language skills. Many websites list jobs specifically for English-speaking foreigners living in Finland. 

Other jobs in service sectors need some knowledge of Finnish at least A2 level. Universities and language centers offer Finnish courses up to C2 (native-speaker level).

Can my family move with me when I come to Finland after online year?

Yes certainly. Your spouse and kids can apply for residence permit to move to Finland with you.

Your spouse can seek full-time employment. Your kids can attend public schools/daycares completely free in Finland.
